Support Groups

The Women’s Coalition offers two support groups for victims of domestic violence. One group is conducted in English, the other in Spanish. We also conduct a support group for adult survivors of incest. The support groups maintain confidentiality.

There is no charge for the support groups and they are held one evening per week for two hours. Groups are co-led by two trained facilitators and provide a safe environment for victims to share their experiences and strengths as the move toward being survivors.

Call our office (773-9272) for dates and times of the meetings. Your call will remain confidential.

Why the support groups?

We ran into a quote that really says it all.

When these strangers gathered, something happened — some would call it “a dynamic,” other “grace” — that allowed them to speak truthfully from the depths of their hearts and also to be receptive to each other’s truths, where in other circumstances they could not do either, and in this giving and taking, to begin to heal. What makes this possible and why it is healing remains the mystery and miracle of self-help groups.

Adult Survivors of Incest

The effects of sexual abuse during childhood and early adolescence can be far-reaching. This group, co-led by a trained counselor, offers victims the hope and guidance needed to recover.

For victims who feel lost and alone, the group offers the opportunity to meet others who have also been victims. They can learn to understand that the victimization was not their fault and that healing is possible.

The support group is conducted on Wednesdays from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Baby-sitting services are provided.

Domestic Violence (English)

Victims find strength and courage in meeting with other people who have experienced domestic violence. Many times victims of domestic violence feel they are alone and isolated. Our group helps break down this isolation and offers support and skills needed to move beyond victimization.

The group is open to all victims of domestic violence. The domestic violence need not be physical. People who are victims of emotional, verbal or sexual abuse are also welcome. This support group is held on Thursdays from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Baby-sitting services are provided.
